Pressure Equipment Directive

2014/68/EU

The Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU addresses pressure-retaining vessels and equipment for fluids with a permissible gauge pressure of more than 0.5 bar. This directive mentions numerous exceptions, so that a case-by-case consideration is necessary in many cases. It is a CE directive, which means that it requires an EU declaration of conformity and CE marking for the product. The Pressure Equipment Directive was last updated in 2018 (as of January 2021).
Important notes on this directive / pressure equipment directive compact:

  • A Pressure Equipment Directive category calculator is a tool that some providers provide on the Internet so that a Pressure Equipment Directive category classification can be made. However, these calculators will only help you determine the pressure equipment categories if you have all the necessary documents at hand. What do you need? Feel free to contact our team and we will be happy to help you - even by phone - this is often much faster than using the calculator tool.
  • In terms of the Pressure Equipment Directive, the categories include piping, vessels, pressure cookers, equipment with safety function and many more. We will be happy to provide you with more information in a personal meeting!
  • Pressure Equipment Directive Diagrams can be found in the annex of the directive. In Annex 3 you can find diagrams for conformity assessment. If you need help with the diagrams, we will be happy to advise you as part of our Compliance Adhoc Consulting.
  • Are you interested in determining your pressure equipment directive fluid group? Feel free to contact us as well.

Legally compliant implementation of the Pressure Equipment Directive

The Pressure Equipment Directive requires the preparation of a risk assessment of the product for implementation. In addition, a categorization (I - IV) of the device must be carried out. The result of the assessment and categorization produces a list of tests that must be performed on the device. The findings from the test reports are part of the technical documentation of the product and the basis of the EU declaration of conformity to be issued.
