The Battery Pass consortium, in collaboration with stakeholders and industry experts, has developed and recently published the new DIN DKE SPEC 99100: Requirements for the data attributes of the battery passport. It represents an important milestone for the Battery Pass project and the implementation of the EU Batteries Regulation.
DIN DKE SPEC 99100 is intended to provide clear and practical guidance to companies preparing to meet the requirements of the EU Battery Pass, which will be mandatory from February 2027. The standard defines the data attributes required for the EU Battery Pass based on both regulatory requirements and voluntary additions. These include:
- General information about the battery and producer
- Battery materials and composition
- Performance and durability indicators
- Working conditions in raw material extraction
- Carbon footprint of batteries.
Building on the Battery Pass Content Guidance for the EU Battery Passport (updated in December 2023), DIN DKE SPEC 99100 provides companies with clarity on data requirements while supporting the implementation of digital product passports for a circular economy. An updated data attribute longlist has been published to supplement this standard. This resource allows users to filter the requirements by battery category and serves as a basis for implementing the EU battery passport in their organisation. The standard can also be downloaded free of charge from DIN Media.
The far-reaching innovations are currently leading to numerous questions and uncertainty on the part of sellers and producers.
