Cotton ban by 2030?

Cotton does not meet the EU targets for 2030, which envisage a recycling rate of 50% and a recyclability of 25%.

As FashionUnited reports, cotton is not sustainable due to its high consumption of resources, chemical pollution and limited recyclability. It takes 10,000 litres of water and 1 litre of chemicals to produce 1 kg of cotton. In addition, cotton does not meet the EU targets for 2030, which stipulate a recycling rate of 50% and a recyclability of 25%.

The EU is increasing the pressure on companies with directives such as the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). However, there is a lack of clear, standardised guidelines, which makes implementation more difficult and increases the possibility of a “cotton ban” by 2030.

This example shows that optimised Legal Monitoring is necessary as an existential risk precaution in order to protect you in terms of product law.
