EUDR postponement is official

Products such as wood, rubber, cattle, palm oil, leather, cocoa, coffee and soya are affected. The final text corresponds to the EU Commission's original proposal and has lost none of its explosive nature.

As reported by the EU Parliament, on 17 December 2024 the Parliament adopted the provisional political agreement with the Council to postpone the new EURD regulations by 546 votes to 97 with 7 abstentions (trade-e-bility reported: EUDR postponed to 2025):

"Large operators and traders will now have to respect the obligations of this regulation as of 30 December 2025, and micro- and small enterprises from 30 June 2026. This additional time is intended to help companies around the world implement the rules more smoothly from the date of application, without undermining the objectives of the law," the Parliament said.

In order for the one-year postponement to come into force, the agreed text still had to be approved by the Council and published Official Journal of the EU, which took place on 19 December 2024.

The EUDR aims to prevent deforestation caused by imports of products such as wood, rubber, cattle, palm oil, leather, cocoa, coffee and soya by requiring companies to provide geolocalisation data.

Please note that the final text is unchanged, corresponds to the EU Commission's original proposal and has therefore lost none of the explosiveness originally expected for 2024. The companies affected are urged to use the time gained to implement EUDR compliance so that they do not face the same implementation problems again in a year's time.
