WEEE Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act

The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) is the implementation of the WEEE Directive into national law in Germany. WEEE stands for “Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment”, or old electrical appliances for short. The objective of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act is to ensure the proper disposal and recycling of electrical equipment by producers, importers or dealers. End consumers can thus dispose of normal household quantities of old electrical appliances free of charge at over 1,900 regional collection points in Germany.

According to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act, companies are only allowed to offer or sell electrical goods if they are registered with the foundation Elektro-Altgeräte Register (EAR) and have a so-called WEEE registration number.

In addition to registration, companies must also comply with other regulations, such as monthly volume reporting, disposal throughout Germany, annual updates of registrations, including trusteeship and guarantee systems.

The trade-e-bility GmbH affiliate take-e-way GmbH will advise you free of charge on the regulations of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act and, if you wish, will assume full implementation of the Act in Germany and the WEEE directive in all EU member states on your behalf.
